Green Day has been around longer and has a collection of classic songs that can't be replaced. Though, Sum 41 is a more versatile band, being able to go from pop-punk to metal and back again. And they are very good at "fitting into the genre" I guess I can say.
If Sum 41's first single was The Bitter End, I'd be convinced they were a metal band. So I'd have to say Sum 41.

Sum 41 tries to be Green day in so many ways , i couldnt even describe.

Sum 41 hands down, for me, Green Day only have like 6 or 7 songs that i really like, where as i love pretty much everything Sum 41 have made

but is way better sum 41 of course
and as Underclass Heroine say they were better back in the day

Nah i wasnt talking about that , i was talking about that obvious pop punk pattern i see in many members of this forum , most of you listen to blink , green day , pop punk (: .
I dont know a respectable metalhead that listens to sum .

I'm a metal fan,
I don't like Green Day
I'm not too fond of Blink
Offspring are O.K
Sum 41 are one of the few "pop" punk bands I listen to
I hate how ever pop punk band is compaired with them.
To be honest, None of Sum 41's stuff sounds like Green Day, or at least to me.

well, Dookie is legendary, but Sum 41 is all killer while Green Day is getting all filler so... and I started listening Sum 41 and Green Day about the same time, but Sum 41 ALL THE WAY!

Sum 41, believe it or not, are my favourite band, There's not a one song I don't like and as for your second question you asked out of the two songs I've heard, I am pretty impressed.
and for your first question the main Metal bands I listen to are Cradle Of Filth, Disturbed, Bullet For My Vaalentine, Hellyeah, Linkin Park and I do enjoy a bit of Trivium and Metalica.

Green Day. They are one of those 'seminal' bands from de latest 80's and early 90's who influenced others.
EDIT: but I love much Sum 41. I respect them much.

Trivium hmmmm , I like BFMV , but i enjoy death better =D .
