who cares if they went mainstream. Underclass Hero was a little mainstream too yet it was a great album. i will say that it sucks how Billie, Mike and Tre stopped playing hard solos, complicated bass lines,etc. but it's about making good music, isn't it

Altogether I would have to say Sum 41 for sure. No doubt. Dave made the definate difference with all his solos and ideas.
But I also don't think Green Day doesn't suck. I think American Idiot was an accomplishment. Being able to get away from the shadow cast by your breakthrough hit is an accomplishment. Plus I really like Foxboro Hot Tubs. If I knew how to dance, it would be to that music.

I have to disagree. Tre and Stevo are pretty close in drumming skill. It's not really clear which one is the better drummer. you've probably heard American Idiot Green Day more than old school but Billie Joe could play some really cool solos, most probably better than Deryck's.
same with Mike. Cone is still awesome but Mike's basslines in Dookie were quite amazing.
