as long as they only bash each others musical abilities it's all fun, a bit of competition never hurts. Deryck was right anyway, SP sucks. I saw them live when they opened for Avril(yikes) like 10 years ago, I still remember that bass player with his red emo gayliner as the worst I've ever heard

I remember hearing about it a loooong time ago, I didn't really get it since it wasn't written anywhere about why Deryck hated them. But the Avril thing sort of makes sense

Comparing Simple Plan and Sum 41 musically is like comparing apples and oranges, so i doubt Simple Plan care about that. The only simialrity is that they come from the same background in the mid 90's so-cal punk rock explosion. That's were it ends.

Simple Plan loves Sum 41 no matter what they say.

Wow, so many posts and no one has answered the original question.

Well, like DeryckW posted, Simple Plan has done a song mentioning Sums in the lyrics.
Sums were a big influence on SP, and they were big fans.

But in an interview long time ago, when asked about the biggest influences, SP brought Sum 41 up.
They told how they liked the band, but they also said Sums "ruined their own future with HHOP full of messy and unfinished songs, with a drum solo on top of it to boost their ego up".

Something along those lines. Since then Sums have talked shit about them whenever they can.
And to be honest, I don't blame them.

I can remember reading another story on the boards years ago about this. Apparently Sum 41 and Simple Plan were playing a show together years back and the guys had to go on before SP, which was something they didn't agree with and apparently Sum 41 rocked extra hard that night and got the crowd all riled up before Simple Plan came on, basically turning the crowd against them - which pissed them off.

Maybe that's untrue, but I can definitely remember reading something along those lines in the not so distant past!

Yeah, I remember that. The drummer of Simple Plan was saying something about Half Hour not needing a drum solo.

Hmm, I've heard lots of things between Sum 41 and Simple Plan.
I didn't hear all that before though (The interview questions). It's weird because Simple Plan covered an Avril song once. Actually Simple Plan were at the Olympic Closing Ceremony performing, and I thought to myself, Why couldn't Sum 41 be there? Their a much better and more well known Canadian band.
But that doesn't really have anything to do with this. I think it's ridiculous that artists can just talk about other ones like that, but for the record, I think Sum 41 could give Simple Plan a Fat Lip.
