The last disk Sums were like "We've matured, gotten married, become better musicians etc." and now literally all they talk about apart from the music is boozing it up and getting wasted. I know they've always drank but it hasnt been this prevalent since the press were trying to portray them as the new Motley Crue back in '02. I just find it a bit quizzical that it's come after they said all that not three years ago.
You put way too much thought into this. They're just having fun and talking about whatever is happening at the time. Why does it always have to be more? Who cares "what" Sum 41 really is? They are just human and do this because they enjoy it. And this video shows why they always have and always will be my favorite band by far: Not only is their music awesome, they're also always great entertainment and never take themselves too seriously.

I don't see how my comparing two different forms of behaviour can be classed as putting way too much thought into something. I'm not even making a point, I'm just comparing two different things in a black and white fashion to express my opinion - it's open to interpretation and discussion though! I don't care too much 'what' they are either, but my God their Twitter page has become an annoyance!

I kinda agree with you on this too, they should be kinda more serious or they'll get an image like people have of Bowling for soup. Drinking beer and just having fun, maybe making an album, being teenagers forever... stuff like that. On UCH they showed they were grown up a bit atleast!

I disagree, this is exactly how they should be. They were always getting drunk like this or even more and they always did some serious talk every now and then, it was the perfect balance. UH was the first deeply personal record for Deryck and it was also the first record after they decided this is what they want to keep doing, no matter what, so of course there was a little more of that, because they were proud they made that transition as a band.
Now they can be much more relaxed about everything. No pressure, no expectations, no doubts, just doing what they do best: Making music and having a good time around it. Life is serious enough and who are you to tell them to stop "just having fun"?

Duh, I didn't tell them to stop that. I just said people might get that vision out of them if their being like that. I wouldn't want them to be like Bowling for Soup tho I like them too.

Well Simon, you're putting a little bit too many thoughts of yourself in that one.
We're not saying "Stop having fun! Don't drink!". Not at all.
But it's strange how they've changed again. UH was like "We're more mature, we've grown up, blablabla". And like, right now, they're acting like they did in the AKNF-DTLI-era.
That's not growing up, that's a contradiction.

Thanks. Those were the actual points i was trying to make but to some it didn't really lighten up.

So what? They said the same thing about DTLI and Chuck aswell as the new record. But they also admitted countless times that behind all that, they are still the same kids. I don't see what the big deal is, so yeah lets chill the fuck out haha.

I think they still acted up plenty during UH, remember Tom's tour bus tirade, and that was the only recorded incident we saw..lol, and there was plenty of unusual twitter updates during the Offspring tour...I mean they are more mature in recording the album and stuff, I think thats what they meant, they take the band more seriously.

Not to mention the last Road to Ruin ever!
On a side note, the UH era wasn't that great. As in UH era, I'm talking about 2007-2008. It just wasn't very exciting.
Now, there doing everything everybody has ever wanted them to do.

Well, I'm not going to search through every Sum 41 video I ever watched now, just to prove my point. Believe what you want, but I remember them talking about Chuck like that when it was coming out and I was suprised myself when not that long ago I found an old feature/interview or whatever of the DTLI era, where they basically said the same thing, just not as predominant.

I'll back simon up on that, the vids/interviews are out there. They said it a bit more during UH partly b/c of Dave leaving and having all the doubt floating around they they couldn't put another album out. But they said similar things in Infected and Chuck era about the writing, even a few interviewers asked if they had matured after Still Waiting came out.

Well, they said this countless times, and i quote "When AKNF came out, we liked to party, so that's what we wrote about.. After you've toured the world, you know more, and write about things in the world. Growing up is inevitable."
I'm not taking sides, and that's not a perfect quote.. But you get it.
