I never drank when I wasnt of age, but I definetly see the benefit. In Canada, you're of age to drink at 18 or 19 depending on the province you're in. The benefit of drinking before then is that you find your limit, how much you can eat before you drink, what hangovers are as well as what types of alchohol you like/ can handle. Of course, I DO NOT recommend starting to drink before you're sixteen. Most people are going to drink when they're sixteen or seventeen because that's what you do when you're in grade 11 and 12.
I have a friend who lived in the states and he said that a bunch of his friends who waited till they were 21 to do any drinking ended up binging and causing a lot of damage to themselves. Also, it's kinda embarrassing when you're 21 and a 19 year old can handle alcohol better than you. Just my opinion.

That'd the exact opposite of what I've experienced
Our legal drinking age is 16, lots of people repect this and most scumbags don't..
I started drinking in a safe environment, and learned to drink in a responsible way like most of my friends did.
Some people I knew from high school started drinking without their parents knowing, and most of them ended up in the hospital after binge drinking at least once.
