Re: "Screaming Bloody Murder" Discussion!

I've grown into all the songs but... I still haven't memorized every single word yet. I can't figure out why either I usually can after 5 plays.
To be honest, I find most of the lyrics to be quite forgettable. They don't stand out like the ones in Underclass Hero. They're more heartfelt and you can clearly hear more emotion in these lyrics than probably any other Sum 41 album... but they don't seem to stick. There's only a few lyrics that really stand out I find, but that's just me.Gutter Dreams wrote:I've grown into all the songs but... I still haven't memorized every single word yet. That makes Underclass Hero better in words of significance than SBM.Jeremy Kill wrote:To be honest, I find most of the lyrics to be quite forgettable. Plus it also backs up Deryck's explanation of the songwriting on Screaming Bloody Murder how he just let words come out and didn't really think about it. On Underclass Hero, that was pretty much the main focus; what he wanted to say with the songs. Not to mention that Underclass Hero is more poppier-sounding than Screaming Bloody Murder, so the catchy choruses and hooks stick longer and better in less listens.FakeNinja wrote:That makes Underclass Hero better in words of significance than SBM.Jeremy Kill wrote:To be honest, I find most of the lyrics to be quite forgettable. I agree. I find every time I listen to those two songs I get this "I don't know any of the lyrics" or "I can't remember any lyrics" feeling.MetalMilitant41 wrote:On the lyrical side of things, powerful choruses and melodies carry memorable lyrics. But the other songs feel sometimes, i hate to say it but cliche. And the different songs like BYDWK and TFYTG aren't really memorable apart from the choruses, those are the ones that don't stick for me. But the more emotional and heartfelt songs and the heavier angrier lyrics are obviously the most memorable.
