im learning bass now.and my teacher or smthng teach me finger style.And my cousins etc. say everytime using pick bassist is not real bassist but my best groups bassists are playing bass with pick.and i would like to play bass with pick.But everyone say pick style is easiest,real bassist don't use this techniqiue.I'm bored to these words.My teacher says maybe your music style should using pick.probably all punk rock band play bass with pick and today im bought pick.So what's your thinks guys??
yeah i move my hand up and down but When i try to fast these thing don't always move my strings and when im stand up.And this is really getting hard.:S i can't do now
you would need a LOT of power to snap a bass string

thats bullshit
many bassists use picks and fingers for different styles, so do guitarists.
plus, theres no such thing as a "real" bassist - everyone is different
punk usually sounds better with a pick though

It's good playing with either, without a pick it produces a chompy sound, which some bassists prefer over the sound that comes from playing with a pick. Play with whichever style you're comfortable with. :)
Punk bass usually just plays behind the guitars as its more guitar driven. But if you wanna expand into funk or fusion, even RnB, you might want to think fingers. Plus with fingers, you produce a warmer sound and can learn more advanced bass techniques such as string popping and slapping which could keep you interested in the instrument more instead of just picking the same four notes in a song. Picks will help you play faster quavers though. Pros and cons for both sides.
