BROWN BRIGADE.
TG finds out what kick-ass ex-Sum 41 guitarist did next...
When Dave Baksh left Sum 41 in May 2006, it was to focus on his killer new band Brown Brigade. The band take in classic thrash metal and old-school funk and TG can't wait to get our mitts on their debut album! "I have always been more interested in the thrash, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and grindcore bands, so our sound is classic thrash metal but we also play reggae and funk " says Baksh. "Our reggae is more of a rub-a-dub style like on Mister Yellowman by Yellowman, and Two Bad DJ with General Saint and Clint Eastwood. Our funk is more like Booker T and the MG's"
Baksh has also started learning how to 'sight read' on the drums... "My playing is very rhythm based so I decided to learn everything about rhythm before attempting guitar theory. Learning the proper length of a note keeps what we call the 'pulse' of a beat constant. I'd like to become a ninja in my timing and delivery, as these are the backbones of my style."
The band's reggae and funk inflections also mean that Baksh can cover a lot more groove-based playing, as opposed to the fast punk rock of Sum 41.
"I have a chance to play more groove-oriented riffs and slower tempos without writing a ballad. This band gives me the outlet to pursue any style of guitar, drums or just music in general."
If you want to see Brown Brigade in action, you may have to wait a while... at least until they find a UK record label. "If anyone wants us to come over for a tour we are down. We are currently looking for a label in the UK, so if there is a record company that needs a hard-working metal band, call us!"

this:
Pull The curtain sounds pretty scary!
"I was 22 and we were on tour in Japan and I started having severe panic attacks - just this crazy anxiety. I didn't know what was happening to me, I didn't know it was panic. For six or eight months I was having a panic attack every single day and I thought my brain had been fried from all the drugs I'd done, so I started going to see a drug's counsellor. I said, 'I've done something to my brain, I'm fucked!' As soon as I realised that it was anxiety and did some research on the internet I started getting over it.
"So that's what this song is about. My panic attacks always start because I think I'm about to die. I can feel my chest getting heavy as though I'm gonna have a heart attack. I understand them now, which is why I don't get them anymore. But at the time I was like 'What the fuck is going on?' "
was actually on ultimate guitar a while back. i tottaly forgot about it.
