When do you think Sum 41 was best live?
Every era has strenghts and weaknesses. Instrumentally, they are just so-so, now, in my opinion, especially in comparison to the old days with Dave.
Vocally, Deryck seems to be ironing out all his weaknesses this time around, which seems good.
I really think they were enjoyable live during the AKNF era. Even though Deryck's singing was kind of soft, it was at least consistent, as opposed to the Chuck and DTLI eras, where he'd go back and forth between his whispering and full forced shouting mid-song. Plus, he could actually play guitar live during the AKNF era.
What do you guys think?
Best Live Era?

I think the Infected era had the best overall live performances. I say this because Deryck would actually play more in Grab the Devil and would play half the solo in The Hell Song. In Go Chuck Yourself it's easy to hear that Deryck does not double pick lets the chords ring instead.
But Deryck's singing has improved a lot in the Underclass era. I think mainly because the Underclass Hero songs have been rehearsed more than the others before recording, so they sound more like the record.

Probably the AKNF or DTLI or probably both.
In the AKNF Deryck was more active in the guitar playing live and vocally he also was great.
Of course, he's a lot better now vocally, but the Chuck era sucked for Deryck vocally and musically since he did a lot less on guitar and the live shows overall weren't those good, cuz in a lot of songs he was just screaming and trying really hard to do the vocals.
They mixed it good though on Go Chuck Yourself which sounds great.

i havent seen them live yet. they came once before i was into rock music. on the DTLI promo tour. i think chucks songs would be the best live. real heavy go-mad music. but deryck plays less guitar. then again i probably think this because of go chuck yourself. AKNF would have been fun music though and still is. they were young and reminded me of blink then. DTLI probably would be the best of both worlds so.
Well Go Chuck Yourself has almost all of Deryck's parts, both guitar and vocals, re-recorded.
But yeah, he seemed to have gotten really lazy during the Chuck era as far as the guitar playing goes. He apparently has some problem palm-muting, since he never does it. Like in Grab the Devil and We're All To Blame. It's kind of annoying.
And he doesn't even really play his power chords very well during the Chuck era, if you listen closely.

ya but theres no comparison to being at a live show. its so different. like on youtube you only see the techniqualities of it. not the fun you have and to me thats what makes a concert.Patentti wrote:There are hundreds of live performances on internet featuring sum. btw I like the UH live era the best.pearl182 wrote:i havent seen them live yet.
