Underclass Hero - DTLI?

Post by heartcore-prisoners »

Is it just me, or does UcH sound more like DTLI than AFNK?
I find that UcH's pop-punkness also has a metal side to it than AKNK, therefore my thoughts on UcH are more DTLI than AKNK.

Anyone agree? Disagree?

disagree. UH has been taken into a whole new style for sum 41. as much as DTLI was more metal influenced, the lyrical depth of UH has far knocked DTLI and AKNF outta the way. songs about getting drunk and high have been replaced for real emotion about deryck's life.

musically, i would say UH is also in a new zone; theres alot of softer tones out there, and then they drastically mix it with some harder stuff. reflects the lyrics well, but this wasn't needed for the past albums. maybe a few songs on chuck.

it's like a mix, for example King of Contradiction, Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times, March of the Dogs and The Jester sounds a lot like DTLI?, but in the other hand Underclass Hero and Walking Disaster for example are very AKNF like. But also Best of Me and With Me fit in the lines of Some Say or Pieces, so it's Chuck. The other ones are the ones with a more "new sound" that I would say doesn't fit in the previous albums.

That's what I think musically wise, lyrically, this is along the lines of Chuck but with an obvious more deeper, real feeling on it.

I think Underclass Hero was labeled as being "more like All Killer" because the first single highly resembled Fat Lip. The rest of the songs were more upbeat and happier than on Infected and Chuck, so I think some people just assumed it to be more like All Killer.

But I think Underclass Hero is in a league of its own. The lyrics don't seem to resemble any previous album, although some phrases and words are recycled. The musical prowess has lightened up and the playability doesn't sound as complicated as Chuck. However, the music artistically has improved with more piano, acoustic guitars and the use of multiple drum kits in a single song.

It'd really be interesting to see what Sum 41 does on their next album. And I really do hope they make another.

^ Yes I think they will too!

They realize now who they are and nothing can stop them and they've come this far, this is who they are in life. Sum 41 still has a long way to go so don't anyone worry, there'll be much more classics on the way.
Sit back and relax! 8)

wtf!!! it sounds NOTHING like DTLI?....

The thing that has annoyed me about this album though is the fact everyone is saying "oh the music so much more techinical and the words are so much more meaning full so it must be a better album"...what i say to that is WTF!!! it makes no difference how techincal it is, it doesnt make it a better album, nor does meaningful lyrics mean anything. its so annoying, this album is no were as good as DTLI? or Chuck for that matter.

i hate the complex lyrics, i wanna hear songs about gettin drunk or high, not about derycks torn apart lives, cos frankly i really dont care

^^ i like how deryck wrote bout his life coz i think it make the music more personal and has more meaning then just songs about getting drunk and high (even tho those were gud 2)
i think it made underclass hero a deeper and more meaningful album
in short... i liked the lyrics

TO the first poster, i have to agree with all those who said that Underclass Hero is a league of its own.

I mean, its a mix of all their styles from previous albums plus some new material we never heard of them.
for example, Count Your Last Blessings is kinda Chuck style, Underclass Hero is AKNF style along with Confusion and Frustration, King of Contradiction is again Chuck style, while Pull the Curtain reminds more of a DTLI style only a lot more complex, with the piano and stuff.

Anyway, they maybe lost the solos (and Dave), but basically its a new artistic style for them.
I believe they will make much more albums, cuz Deryck is really evolving in the whole musical style and he basically leads the guys and like in that interview Phili scanned for us, they all are part of his vision and they are fulfilling a new vision of his and evolving artisticly, while Deryck evolving in the song writing, singing and the add of piano and acoustic guitars, which he plays.

I sure believe they gonna return, and i was happy to hear it in that interview that he decided to continue with the band, after saying that he couldn't see himself making another album with the guys after Chuck.

I think musically, UH is a mixture of Chuck and AKNF.
Lyrically it's something new.

Underclass Hero = Fat Lip
Speak Of The Devil = Heart Attack
Dear Father = Pieces
Count Your Last Blessings = There's No Solution
The Jester = Mr. Amsterdam
With Me = Some Say
Pull The Curtain = 88/Hell Song
King Of Contradiction = Welcome to Hell
Confusion and Frustration in Modern Times = Motivation
So Long, Goodbye = Some Say/Pieces

JUST MY OPINION ;|

Yeah, I noticed that. And I was referring to the "AKNK" abbreviation in the original post, which in my mind, would stand for All Killer No Killer. So double killer.
