The text is not too bad to read once you get used to it, it's just that it's different to most other websites so it's weird at first. I think the header on the forum should just be the menu with a background slightly bigger than it instead of the whole pic.
Yup, exactly. At least for the forum I would use smaller header. Lots of scrolling in every topic/page.
i share these sentiments as well.

Hey guys,

Not been here for a while. The new design is nice artistically but the header is far too big and the main post text is a bit unclear to read.

Would be nice to have some alternate theme options, maybe a light version and a minimal version with stripped down headers etc.

I think the thing with the header can be solved if you could make a button that would send you to the bottom of the page, or collapse the header whenever you want to but still preserving the menu.

Some additional thoughts about the forum, may be it will be helpful for the TNS v4 :)

1. I use RSS to read news from my favorite websites, all of them have it, but TNS doesn't. It upsets me a bit. I know, all the same I can find in Facebook and Twitter, but I don't use it too often, I'm old school, I really love RSS :) And given that it's so easy to add RSS to a website, I can't make it out, why it still haven't happened.

2. Is there any chance to see a mobile version of the website? Sometimes I use my smartphone to read the forum, but if you try to do it, you will find it really difficult because of its fixed-width layout. Yes, indeed, we still remember about adaptive/responsive design ;)

3. Signature. I understand if someone wants to tell us something additional about himself, some links, pics, thoughts, and so on. But some signatures are veeeeery big, unreal big, huge, enormous, monster, giant, epic overlarge, bla-bla. I respect it. Really. Yeah, really. Absolutely true :) But it's so annoying to see such signature 10 times at a page (in case the owner of the signature writes very often). Especially if it has GIF-image. I'm thinking it would be wonderful if I could hide all signatures if I want (may be by a function in the admin panel or sort of). Currently I use user-styles for class="signature", it helps me.

4. Additional to no.3 - a lot of info below the avatars (location, age, instruments, etc). If a post is short (and it doesn't have a huge signature), then we have a blank space and, as a consequence – a lot of extra scrolling. It isn't that it's a big problem, but as I mentioned earlier, I like to criticize minor details :) Is it not possible to find all of it in the user's profile? I'm not sure what kind of the info is really important, may be it's his/her location, age, gender, first name... Everything else can be found in the user's profile if necessary, I think.

5. Red background for citations. Hmm, may be it's only my quirk, but for me the red color means a mistake. I read a post and in the background my brain tries to find out what's the problem with a quoted text :)

Again, it's IMHO :)

I'm pretty sure there's a rule about signatures, if my memory serves me right 500x200 is the maximum allowed

Thanks again for some thoughts.

Like Jake said, there already is an option to turn off the signatures. And I don't see the info under the avatar to be that big of a space.

But why do you want to change TNS to any other site? The quote shouldn't be red, because it isn't red anywhere else? Background shouldn't be black because no one else have it black either? Why can't TNS be a unique site? I love the new layout, not only because it looks badass, but also because I've never seen some of the features elsewhere.

This site has become very unique, also by its layout. I don't want it to be ruined just to meet the standards.

ONG, please, don't you take offence :) it's just some thoughts, everyone has his own opinion. I don't want to change the website (anyway, I don't have any rights to do it). I didn't want to say something "shouldn't" be. It shouldn't be for me (in a perfect world), but not for everyone. All is needed to do is agree or not with it. That's all. You can read it and forget as another stuff in net, it's easy :)

Well, I've stopped criticizing, it's all over and done with. I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. The new layout is awesome, fabulous, fantastic, mind-blowing, unique, one-of-a-kind. I have never seen such design before.

Haha, don't flatter yourself. No offence taken at any point. :glad:

It just seemed that you prefer a standard website look. Like the red quote thing, I think it's cool and badass, doesn't bother me at all.

Of course criticizing is welcome, but just if you see something new doesn't necessary mean it's bad. You just need to get used to it. :winkwink:
