"‘Dear Father <Complete Unknown>' is a song I've tried to write forever and I just never finished it," Whibley explains. "I've never met my father — ever. I grew up with a single mother and I have no brothers or sisters, so it was just me and my mom. She had me when she was 17. I had a different upbringing from anyone that I know and I started writing a song called ‘Dear Father.' It's basically about growing up my entire life and how I don't even know his last name and I've never even seen a picture of him. I don't know anything about him. That was the hardest song I've ever had to write because I didn't even know what to write and it was hard because I never really talked about it."
I remember reading this. So knowing only the first name doesn't really give any help finding him.

I usually don't post this shit, but there's a couple good moments

At the 40 sec mark, Deryck is asked who's going to sweep the Grammys where he answers "Me" and at the 2 min mark he talks about the canceled tour and his back:

He's just not interested anymore, he wants to be but I think being told he can't do things is giving him little motivation these days. Plus it's not his place to answer the Avril stuff, loved the 'me' bit, that was quite egotistical but I loved it.

The video of Deryck talking to the paps was just what I thought it would be; Little conversation. To be expected though, he also didn't have much time but at least he still answered some things. The Avril/Brody thing was a bit too much, they should of got the hint when Deryck didn't respond to it the first time. And Deryck did say it, The Sums will take home that Grammy!

Personally if I were in a position where my livelihood depended on following famous people and asking them every question under the sun in the hope of getting a one-word answer I would consider either rethinking my career or suicide. The paparazzi have never and will never contribute anything to society other than the inflation of one of the biggest problems with modern civilisation - the idea of 'celebrity'. I love Sum 41 but, like 99% of musicians nowadays, they don't deserve recognition as idols over people who work harder and contribute more to society. Tim McIlrath is a great musician and a real contribution to society - because he stands up for what he believes in and realises the problems with our modern world. Deryck is not this, but famous musicians with celebrity status will always get more recognition and there's very little we can do about this. The paparazzi is the embodiement of self-exaccerbation and ignorance. /rant

The paparazzi can make quick, decent cash for a good snapshot of a big-time celebrity though. For example, whenever Britney Spears was in the tabloids a lot, probably back in 2007/2008, a picture of her was like thousands of dollars a photo (depending how good it was). You've seen how most of them take photos though, right? They just go in, flashbulbs a-blazin' and if they get lucky, they get a grand for five minutes of "work".

To be honest, if I were given the choice of being a paparazzi or have a steady job as a 7-11 clerk, I would pick being a paparazzi. The pay may be feast or famine, but I'd rather get assaulted by a rich person than get robbed at gun/knife/broomstick point by a poor person. At least if I get assaulted, I can say "Well, maybe I deserved it a little." :silly:
