I have to agree with the overrated bit. Also, this comes from someone that has all their studio albums.2712 wrote:im serious. i couldn't hold it in any longer, i fucking hate him.Tyler. wrote:Are you serious or just trolling?2712 wrote:Travis barker is a shitty drummer, he sounds like a fucking robot. there is no dynamics with any of his patterns, everything is precise and the same velocity. you could replace him with a drum machine and no one would tell the difference.
he has skill, but he is FAR overrated as a drummer for coming up with patterns and drum parts with variance. they're all the same and sound terribly robotic. i could program in a retarded sounding drum pattern in to Logic at 170 bpm and it would sound like travis barker.
and the fans who think he's hot shit are even worse. but they aren't as bad as those "metalcore" dumb asses who think blast beats are cool. fuck that shit.
I respect blink 182 as people and as musicians, but they are far overrated for talent, all three of them.
why are they popular?
A: because it's fast, simple and fun music meant for people who just wanna hear music that doesn't make them think.
that all being said, i still listen to blink 182 and a few of their songs are good. but i just can't listen to them a whole lot without think about how annoying the drums are, how boring the lyrics are, how weird the guitar riffs are and how unimaginative the bass lines are.
RANT OVER.

Re: Blink 182 Discussion Thread
^ I don't entirely agree with the overrated part. As musicians Mark and Tom are not overrated at all. EVERYONE knows and admits they suck at their respective guitars, and suck at singing. It's just a LOT of people find them very good songwriters, not just the lyrics but how the songs are put together. So if you for some reason don't like them as songwriters then you would find they are overrated as songwriters.
Mark and Tom are not overrated AT all, because they're rated so low as musicians lol. However a tonne of people rate them highly as songwriters and I don't know that they can be overrated in that department because even douchey critics rate their songwriting high. I think they're rated just right on their songwriting skills
But I guess if you just don't like the songwriting and don't like the lyrics at all you'd see them as overrated which is kinda weird but w/e
And as for Travis he's the best drummer in the pop punk/punk genre, no doubt. Go and make those beats with a drum machine, I can assure you all it would be is fucking hilarious, and would sound nothing like his drumming.

Miles better than UAN but still nothing special. There's only so much you can do with just power chords... i really hope for some cool guitar riffs. And about Travis being the best drummer in the pop-punk/whatever genre i must say i prefer Derek Grant over him any day.

^ Fact is, you compare him to 99% of pop punk/punk drummers or even drummers of different genres and they're nothing, they're the drum machine. If he's not your favourite in the genre he'd still have to be in the top 5 for skill and originality. I just dunno wtf the number guy is talking about in regards to travis.

Agree, I was a big Travis fan until I heard LP and saw him on some live videos. Amazing drummer.Bobbyjames wrote:I'm a big fan of the Yellowcard drummer myself.
The new Blink 182 song is good, but nothing more. Way better than UAN but I know they can do so much better.

The Yellowcard drummer shoved past my mates little sister (she's 11) and almost knocked her over. Not much care for him. Travis Barkers drums on the new song are brilliant, I won't deny that.DeryckW wrote:Agree, I was a big Travis fan until I heard LP and saw him on some live videos. Yeah, I think I remember Mark posting a bit of lyrics from Ghost On The Dancefloor awhile ago, if I'm not mistaken. I hope we get a tracklisting soon!Tyler. wrote:Yeah and Tom's guitar tech said the new songs were sounding sweet live at rehearsals so they've been practicing more than one at least.SumGeek wrote:Ah, thankyou for that info! I'm even more excited now for my date of the HCT.Raku wrote:They said they would play 3-4 new songs on this tour, so yes.SumGeek wrote:I like Hearts All Gone. It reminds me of their earlier stuff. Wonder if they'll play it on the HCT?
Also two other song titles are registered as sites by the same person as heartsallgone.com. They're ghostonthedancefloor.com and evenifshefalls.com. So we can probably expect another song maybe even before the first show tomorrow.

Re: Blink 182 Discussion Thread
thats because the pop punk genre is so filled with mediocre musicians, it's a joke. but i can name you two drummers in that genre that are better than Travis. they are Atom Willard and Josh FreeseTyler. wrote:^ Fact is, you compare him to 99% of pop punk/punk drummers...
Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, Freddie Gruber, Dave Grohl, Talyor Hawkins, Keith Moon... can i stop?Tyler. wrote:or even drummers of different genres and they're nothing..
the thing i dislike with Travis is that he plays so fast all the time and when he plays his arms are flailing wildly, he just looks so stupid. there's a reason why Buddy Rich could play drums in his late 70's, or Freddie Gruber can still play in his 80's it's because they know to use stick control and how to use their arms correctly. Travis is going to probably develop carpal tunnel or some kind joint or muscle issue later in life because he plays so stupid.
Neil Peart is STILL playing difficult drum parts that he wrote when he was in his twenties, he's 59 now. thats over 30 years of playing "Tom Sawyer". i'd like to see Travis play his drum patterns the way he plays them now, when he's 60 years old.

Don't really care what he did, or what he didn't do. As long as he is an amazing drummer I don't give a shit if he fuck dead bodies or not.Max wrote:DeryckW wrote:The Yellowcard drummer shoved past my mates little sister (she's 11) and almost knocked her over. ^ Travis lives drums. He'll be playing aweseomely when he's 90 if he's still alive.
