Yeah, but we have a great album. Stop whining
Some days it just gets so hard
And I don’t wanna slip away.

Not to be like that, but this sucked, if i were a new fan watching this i wouldn't even be sure if Cone, Tom and Steve were in the abnd or just Derycks's touring musicans.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
This is very very true. But we were promised a video about how Sum 41 made the record, and they showed just that. If the rest of the band didn't have much to do with any of it then it certainly showed through this. I enjoyed the video alot.Emil wrote:Not to be like that, but this sucked, if i were a new fan watching this i wouldn't even be sure if Cone, Tom and Steve were in the abnd or just Derycks's touring musicans.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
Well its not a Documentary on the Band its just the process the Album went through but I think they could of put some of Deryck's Vocals here. Other than that I thought it was greatEmil wrote:Not to be like that, but this sucked, if i were a new fan watching this i wouldn't even be sure if Cone, Tom and Steve were in the abnd or just Derycks's touring musicans.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
people need to realize that for alot of bands whose frontman is the singer/guitarist/pianist/songwriter, it's essentially their band. sum 41 is deryck's band, just as coldplay is chris martin's, the smashing pumpkins are billy corgan's, sublime was brad nowell's, etc. either way, i thought the documentary was ok, although i wished they spent some time explaining specific songs, rather than the album as a whole the entire time.Emil wrote:Not to be like that, but this sucked, if i were a new fan watching this i wouldn't even be sure if Cone, Tom and Steve were in the abnd or just Derycks's touring musicans.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
I expected a bit more instudio stuff specially recording of vocals but this little piece at 10:18 sounds interesting, well probably just because it's unreleased..

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
I'm pretty disappointed. The beginning was quite interesting but then it went pretty much downhill... And I watched ITD extras last night once again and it was the most entertaining thing ever compared to these partying clips put on altogether. Not that funny anymore I don't know

You guys don't expect a sum 41 Documentary on their album to be about the actual Album do you?

That's because Dave Grohl takes recording seriously.Raku wrote:Meh, Foo Fighters did a much better job at a documentary =/

Loved it. It's simple and it fits their current "rockstar" attitude. The Jack Daniels shrine was brilliant.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
who thought this would be some great oscar nominee best rock documentary feature? i sure as hell didn't, especially with a title like "don't try this at home". it was great for what it was.

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
Less focus on trying to be cool and more focus on the art. Show more footage of recording or jam sessions where they are churning out ideas. Maybe explain the idea behind each song and each member could have given their thoughts on the songs and what was going on in their minds. If they cut out all the party footage and put in more info, I would have enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the doc up till the party bit because it was informative and interesting. Then it fell off the cliff and I was forcing myself through hoping for something else I found interesting.Gregorovich wrote:That's because Dave Grohl takes recording seriously.Raku wrote:Meh, Foo Fighters did a much better job at a documentary =/

The only tidbit I found interesting during the whole party fiasco was that D likes to be alone while recording vocals. I should be able to learn more than that =/
It would've also been cool to see some early ideas for some of the songs...

Re: Sum 41 "Don't try this at home"
The point Deryck was trying to make was that he really didn't go through these conventional writing processes while making songs. They all just sorta came. As for the others, apart from C-Sides & 'Panic Attack', they had very little real input into the writing, simply the recording. I think it was a perfectly accurate representation of what was genuinely going on. The only missing piece would of course be Deryck's personal writing, recording & producing sessions, which he kept entirely to himself.Raku wrote:Less focus on trying to be cool and more focus on the art. Still haven't watched it, but I'm pretty disappointed by the quality... :( And as I read there aren't a lot of footage concerning the recording process...
