Re: half step down live
They've been tuning down a half step since at least the Does This Look Infected? era. Maybe they've done it from the beginning, I don't know. But it is so Deryck can be allowed to sing at a lower pitch. I think it's so he can save his voice because of all the shows they do.
Also, tuning down a half step helps their guitars stay in tune longer, along with heavier gauge strings.

Re: half step down live
Ah, yes, that was kind of weird how he changed the melody of the chorus and bridge. I think part of the reason for that is because the music is actually playback and the song is in standard tuning (or dropped D, if you have the tab book). His voice actually sounds pretty good in that video.
Re: half step down live
Derek said that he broke strings so often :D and the only way was to use thicker ones, so they use half step sown tuning now

Re: half step down live
anyone else think that the music is just playback? it seems too perfect to me, especially the harmonics right before the chorus.

Yeah, it's obviously playback. And Jeremy noted that too few posts above.2712 wrote:anyone else think that the music is just playback? it seems too perfect to me, especially the harmonics right before the chorus.
I just don't get why. Like, excluding Deryck, the rest of the band just pretends they're playing? How fun is that!

Re: half step down live
there's no saying they weren't actually playing it there. and the broadcasters put playback over it. i've seen some blink videos where you could tell they were playing it there but the album version had been put overTomiT14 wrote:Yeah, it's obviously playback. Re: half step down live
I don't like how Deryck nowadays sings "I'm better off dead" like fading out or down sort of. It loses the whole power of the chorus it feels. It was pretty cool sounding when I first heard him doing that during Chuck touring, but I prefer the real way better.

The good "preferred" way/old way he sings the chorus
The new way/way he's sang the chorus since Chuck touring.
