Walking Disaster

Post by TomiT14 »

Like everyone else here, I'm a huge fan of Deryck's writing skills. If you haven't noticed, I especially love all the backing and hidden vocals he puts into his songs. He puts so much effort into the songs, and some things go unnoticed if you don't listen to the songs very carefully.

Well, this is an old one, as in I found this already three years ago, but I've had a hard time figuring out this part from Walking Disaster. It's in the middle of the "Save me" bridge, the album version has it at 3:20, but it's impossible to hear the words properly. The background has the continuous "To save me, to save me, to save me..." part, but the part I'm unsure of is actually the "lead" vocals (if you can call them that, since they are little faded too). Deryck sings "It's too late to save me", followed by "Save me, save me". But if you listen closely, he sings something right before the second line.

What bothers me is that every time I've seen them live, I've heard this part clearly, but since I've been having a fun time at the show, I've always forgotten it by the end of the show. And I don't feel like grabbing my phone and typing that down in the middle of the song. And even when I've taken videos of that song, the quality isn't high enough to hear it clearly.

So, after listening to some live performances for the past few years, my take would be "Tonight I'm not alone".
But I'd like to ask your opinions.

Here are videos taken by me, along with some I found on YouTube that were good quality. But there are a lot more, so these are not the only sources for this.

-Orange Lounge, Toronto, March 2008 (at 3:15)
-Helsinki, Finland, November 2010 (at 4:20)
-Stockholm, Sweden, November 2010 (at 3:45)
-Paris, France, February 2011 (at 3:25)

So, tell me what you hear. :silly:

Yeah, I noticed that part when they started playing it live. I can hear "Tonight I'm not alone" but "tonight I'm all alone" could also work in the case of the "It's too late to save me" part going on.

Yeah, when I was at the Bilbao concert I noticed that part.
I agree with you, I love all that things that he puts in the background of the songs. Like piano, backing vocals...
