yeh it sounds cool

but sounds like a snare on the album

anyreason why .. only thing i can think of is for it to sound louder when it all kicks in

Yeah, I think you're right. It's a snare on the album, but it's made to sound weaker and not as full. I think replicating that part live wouldn't have the same effect because the snare would sound the same all the way through.

It's actually just the snare rim on the album. You could also hear it in one of the rehearsal updates where Cone suggests the song and Steve asks how many strokes before Tom comes in. That sound is way too weak for an actual live situation, just like the traditional stick cue which they never did live either.
I like the muted china cymbal idea though, sounds like repeatedly smashing a baking tray on the ground.

Since I don't have a place to record at the moment, I am thinking about just doing it in the middle of nowhere. I'm not sure though how that works out sound-wise and I also have to wait for the weather to play along. It's snowy/rainy at the moment. :suicide:
