i don't know really.. i love dave, but since i found out dave never really liked the music that they're making i don't care... i wouldn't want dave to come back, cause that would just be wierd.. but i think it would be ok if tom joined the band.. but then he has to be able to play ALL the stuff that dave can. but he can't, soooo...

Same here.Lily32 wrote:They should have taken a guitarist who wasn't already in a band. I don't understant why they took him.
I think if they ever take another lead guitarist as a permanent member, it shouldn't be someone who just got picked out and there they are. It needs to be someone who's toured with them for at least a year or two, who knows their songs like the back of his hand, and who DOESN'T PLAY FOR ANOTHER BAND THAT NEEDS HIM.
I say "his" and "him" because if they brought a chick onboard, one, she'd really have to be the "one of the guys" type to be comfortable with them and to be a member of a band with that kind of rep, and two, they wouldn't be able to escape the rumours of romance within the band. And that could get REALLY MESSY with one of them married, one of them soon to be married, and one of them as good as married.

i wouldnt necessarily agree with everything you said. lyrically, this is by far their best album, but musically, with the exception of bass and drums, the guitars havent been quite up to snuff in my opinion. i dont want to start sh*t, but compared to chuck and DTLI, it barely scratches the surface. but, like they said, it was going to be another AKNF similiar albumMike wrote:tom is cool, but NO ONE can replace dave, and it seems to me that they made their best album to date without him

Tom does his own thing, and so should the Sums. I honestly think they should get a new touring guitarist. I think Tom is a GREAT musician, and a great vocalist and makes the songs sound KICK ASS live, but he's gotta work with Gob. It's never gonna work.
And on the Nirvana issue, Nirvana was alternative/grunge/punk. They had lots of musical influences, it's best not to categorize them as one. And to the person who argued on Nirvana being "punk icons," their music had a lot of influences in addition to a punk sound but, they are essential punk icons to a lot of people. They brought punk music with a new edge back to the mainstream.
