The Epicness that is Chuck

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
I think that Screaming Bloody Murder will be like Underclass Hero but on steroids, with a sense of insanity. Or you could say it would be if Chuck and Underclass Hero made a baby, it would be Screaming Bloody Murder??

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
When Sum 41 said they were making Underclass Hero, I imagined it to be a happier, more upbeat version of Chuck. It was pretty much all that minus the "version of Chuck" part.
Now, finally with Screaming Bloody Murder, I believe that'll happen. Unlike Chuck, I think I'll instantly love whatever's on this album. I'm not saying that out of ignorance being an "anything by Sum 41 is automatically good, no questions asked" kind of fan, but after listening to samples of what's to come from the studio updates, I can't help but feel that this album will be Sum 41's best work. The best work being an equal blend of everything they've done so far and then some.

This album has some of my favorite songs on it, like "We're all to Blame" "Pieces" and "Some Say," but as a whole, this is probably my least favorite album.

Chuck is epic, end of story haha.
I remember I fell in love with No Reason when I heard it, it was also one of the first Sum 41 songs I've heard after listening to Fat Lip, In Too Deep, Over My Head and Hell Song... and it was different from all that Fat Lip/In Too Deep but I still liked it right away. Songs like Pieces were kinda harder for me to get into, but eventually I got into the slower stuff too..

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
Yeah Chuck is definitely one of their best albums, the artwork is so good. Also like how they expanded their lyrics to include most mature stuff, you know, the world outside their own. I remember when Chuck came out I was...14? They played at the university I now go to but I was to young back then to get it, really wished I could have went.
Anyway, I would say there's no best song on the album, it all flows so nicely from song to song that I can sit anywhere any day and listen to it from start to finish.

They lost their punk in Underclass Hero, not Chuck.shadowred3 wrote:chuck was a turnning point for sum 41. also in my oppinion were they lost thier punk. my fav are still this and dtli
That's what I was thinking, still, I like the sound of Chuck more then Underclass Hero. Scumfuck seems to be sort of a combination, but closer to UH.keefer wrote:I think that Screaming Bloody Murder will be like Underclass Hero but on steroids, with a sense of insanity. The new album seems to be going in a Chuck direction with lyrics.

All the previous albums (especially UH) had the potential to become really good (or even in some way epic), but it didn't work out so well. Well, maybe except for Chuck. But for this one, it has the energy of DTLI and Chuck, with the maturity and mellow side of UH mixed with the -till now- missing link: some sophisticated, very well-structured songs.
At least, that's how I see it. For now.

How does Chuck not have very well-structured songs?Lars wrote:But for this one, it has the energy of DTLI and Chuck, with the maturity and mellow side of UH mixed with the -till now- missing link: some sophisticated, very well-structured songs.

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
Of course there are exceptions like No Reason or whatsoever, but with some songs I had a feeling of "there's just one little thing missing". Maybe the solos. No reason, Angels with dirty faces, I'm not the one, Welcome to hell, There's no solution, I'm gonna put We're all to blame in this list as well. Some of these songs just asked for a solo. Especially when Dave was still in the band. I know Deryck wrote a lot of the parts, but he didn't play them live. Dave could play it this way that it just blew your mind, you would jizz while standing in the crowd.

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
Again my argument is that if you like heavier music you will love Chuck
alos if you love slower songs like pieces you will also love Chuck
I love chuck, as i do with all Sum 41 albums but I prefer Underclass Hero
btw The intro leading into No Reason is just sheer Orgasmic

Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
I disagree, No Reason was such a punk rock anthem, a solo would just ruin the feel of it. And I'm Not the One has one of the best breakdowns of all time IMO, that's what makes that song. I appreciate the way the Sums turned to other musical breaks, other then just throwing a solo into the song after the second chorus, it's so much more creative.
Re: The Epicness that is Chuck
I don't know, it just feels like there could've been more solos on the record, without being disturbing.
And they had the guy to do it. I have nothing against Tom, he's pretty awesome actually, but Dave was just able to put so much power and effort in a solo, that it fucking ruled live as well.

Haha I didn't photoshop it. I found it on google.FakeNinja wrote:You sir, suck at photoshopping.
I'm actually pretty good at Photoshoppin, haha. Fail troll is fail.
I get what you mean, but Chuck with solos would be weird, as said before. It was just so serious, solos are pretty unpunk too.Lars wrote:I don't know, it just feels like there could've been more solos on the record, without being disturbing.
