One song missing, is an album still great?

Lots of music around nowadays. Want to talk about it?

One song missing, is an album still great?

Post by Jake-41 »

Basically, i just want some opinions on what YOU think would happen if a very successful album was missing one of it's better songs. Album sells and commercial success being key in this argument.

I'll start.. For example, Let's say In Too Deep never made it on All Killer No Filler, would it had been more, or less popular, would you still buy it?

I'd still buy it. I would rather buy UH if the only songs on it were Speak Of The Devil, Count Your Last Blessings, Confusion and Frustration, So Long Goodbye, and Look At Me.

Lol, yess.

But it doesn't have to be Sum 41 related.. I mean, how would Dookie have done without Basket Case? And how shitty would would have Nimrod been without Time Of Your Life? It wouldn't have even been worth listening to in my opinion.

if an album has not only one amazing song but 2 or 3 it just elevates the album to another level. if all killer only had fat lip and not in too deep then sum 41 would have still gotten pretty famous but not to the level that they achieved. the 2nd or 3rd amazing song on an album makes the album great or just ok.

If All Killer No Filler didn't have Fat Lip, it probably would've been a mediocre success. I don't believe In Too Deep would've been able to attract as many people as Fat Lip would have.

I think an album like American Idiot would be able to hold its own though. You'd have to take out American Idiot, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and Wake Me Up When September Ends for the album to really suffer.

I guess it depends a lot on how that particular song is compared to the rest of the album. Some songs are just good enough to be worth the whole album. For example, my favourite Dylan album is "Highway '61 Revisited" but I definitely wouldn't like it as much if that album didn't have "Desolation Row" or "Ballad of a Thin Man".

Dookie had two other No. 1 singles so that wouldn't suffer that much. Nimrod would still be awesome without Good Riddance.

Imagine the band Europe without the song The Final Countdown. Or Rick Astley without Never Gonna Give You Up.

I really liked Hero of War, but I don't get what's so great about Savior.
