Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
Thrash Metal, Folk Punk, "Orgcore," Punk Rock (most punk subgenres,) Ska, The Who, Older non-pop country. I don't listen to the radio because most of the music on it is shit, except when Green Day and Rise Against are on it (Never heard any other good music on it)

Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
I don't really like to think about what kind of genre I listen to because I'm not really good at recognizing what genre some music is. But a non-pop-punk band I love to listen to is Mew. Especially Snow Brigade is an amazing song.

Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
Without trying to cause any trouble here, I think the topic title sounds a bit like you assume that everyone here mainly listen to Pop Punk music. Pop Punk isn't my preferred genre; I prefer Punk Rock, Hardcore, Melodic Hardcore and Post-Hardcore over Pop Punk. I used to listen a lot to Pop Punk a few years ago though, but I've sort of got tired of it.
And by the way, Millencolin is NOT Pop Punk. Everyone here in Sweden rates them as a Skate Punk band, so they're Skate Punk. End of. =P
This is oviously something we can argue about for all eternity, but for me Sum 41 is not Pop Punk. Simply because I think they have more heavy stuff than Pop Punk stuff, so to me they're more Punk Rock or Alternative Rock/Metal. But that's just my opinion, I'm no expert on the subject.41salute wrote:Although I love a lot of Pop-Punk (e.g. The Sums, SYG, Old GC, Millencolin, NOT Blink 182!), I'm mainly into Metal/Rock.

Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
TROUBLE: Nah, I'm only kidding. I don't think Sum 41 is an Pop-Punk band period. They can't really be pigeon-holed like that, but I do believe their back catalogue is centred around Pop-Punk, or at least Rock music with pop melodies (a pop melody does not necessarily sound happy) .Filespit wrote:Without trying to cause any trouble here, I think the topic title sounds a bit like you assume that everyone here mainly listen to Pop Punk music. I think Millencoln are a Pop-Punk band. Again, their music is centred around pop melodies, but clearly they have the speed and grit of Punk.
But w/e. To me genres are just a way of describing a band's sound, not describing the quality of the music.

Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
Nice to hear it didn't cause any trouble =). Sum 41 are one of the bands I find the hardets to categorize in a genre actually, they mix so many genres into their music. Millencolin to me is actually Punk Rock, but I do understand why a lot of people rate them as Pop Punk. Here in Sweden more or less everyone I've talked to say they're Skate Punk, so they're kind of hard to categorize as well. I also agree with you on the last comment there, the genre doesn't really matter if you like the music, it's just a way to describe the sound.TROUBLE: Nah, I'm only kidding. Re: Non-Pop-Punk music you like
I don't like to call Millencolin pop-punk, just beacuse the whole pop-punk image and scene is different now to what it was a few ago, and they just don;t seem to fit in it. I'd say they're more skate punk/punk rock.

True. What's regarded as Pop-Punk nowadays has 0.00% punk rock content.CUNT wrote:I don't like to call Millencolin pop-punk, just beacuse the whole pop-punk image and scene is different now to what it was a few ago, and they just don;t seem to fit in it. I'd say they're more skate punk/punk rock.
Anybody every listened to Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)? I think they're a great band.

I don't get how people can talk about punk music in the 80's. Green Day invented punk in 1995.

Green Day had some EP's out in the 80's, so that's why.Emil wrote:I don't get how people can talk about punk music in the 80's. Green Day invented punk in 1995.
I hate Green Day except most of the 'American Idoit' album, which is odd as most people feel the opposite from that.
