Yeah the video is meant for instrumental, but since its not perfect you can here complete backing vocals during the chorus and some other parts. I never heard them like that before and its kind of neat.

I can't listen to it right now since my brother is already sleeping and I'm too lazy to get my HPs out, but it's probably the stereo-inverted-phase-trick, which means adding the right channel on the left one but with inverted phase and vice versa.
What it does is, it cancels out everything but the differences of the left and right channel of the stereo song file, so you pretty much just hear the rhythm guitars (they are mostly two different but similar sounding takes on each side, to give them more bigness in stereo) and all other stereo effects (the room sound of the drums' overhead tracks, different reverbs or chorus/stereo backing vocals for example). Sometimes you can also hear the piano clearly where it is usually barely noticable.
The lead vocals are almost always in the center (equally on both stereo channels), which is why you can use this to create fake/substitute instrumentals or karaoke versions. It is also interesting to do just for fun, because all the stuff that is usually taking your attention is suddenly gone and you can listen to the background only, which is indeed pretty cool.

Yeah, it's one of those, haha. I found this trick out by accident a few years ago on my CD player when I pulled the headphone jack out and put it back in. I stopped kind of halfway because it sounded weird and then I realized it was basically an instrumental I was listening to. So then I listened to all the Sum 41 albums with the headphones just barely plugged in.

I didn't mean the instrumental part although that's cool, I meant how during the chorus its only playing backing vocals mainly. The way they sang the acoustic hell song.

Like I said, everyone can do this in an advanced multitrack audio program by adding the same song twice, each on seperate track, and flipping the stereo channels as well as inverting the phase of one of the tracks. Everything that you used hear in the center is now gone (Bass as well as most of the Drums and Leadvocals) and you are left with the guitars and a lot of weird stereo stuff.

Also great to learn songs on guitar.
