I had it on the 3rd page

- how it went from an EP to and album (what changes were made)
- vocal sounds for this album (compared to chuck)
- tom and cone's songs
- effects and pedal choices
- new set list
- demo titles (jessica kill, skumfuk, panic attack)
- and a musician/songwriter question

add a question about the guitar tones if you want. im sure it will be addressed in the open chat but if it gets too crazy he might not get to answering it

Ask him if they're going to change the setlist up during Warped Tour. I'm sure playing the same songs for 30 + days will get boring.

Yeah, though they've pretty much had that same setlist for almost 3 years now, give or take 3 or 4 songs. What they should also do is cut down on the stage banter on songs where nothing happens during the extended bridge (Makes No Difference, Welcome to Hell). Then they would have room to add 2 or 3 more songs.

Well, I'd prefer that you ask as many questions as you like.
The free chat will get crazy, since there are over 40 participants, who all have more than one question to ask.
And as much as I remember, Deryck is not that fast of a typer (the AP.net chat), so I'm predicting that only a minority of the questions asked will get an answer. And if he chooses to answer to the not-so-interesting questions, it's a letdown for everyone.

So, I'd say ask as many as you want/can, and then let the craziness begin.

I think in the past I did 20-30 min of interview then let free chat go till one hours or when the band member had to leave. So I can go 45 and leave 15 min to free chat. I'm definitely going to address the set list.

adding to the questions
- guitar tone
- recording compared to previous albums

keep posting ideas guys

@Jake, nope the chat is full. In the past not everyone has showed up, but I dunno how this one will turn out. I can send as many invites as I want, but only 50 people can actually enter the chat. We made it that way for flood control and such. I might have 3 spots open. I've already had 2 people register late, so if I have openings I'll try to send you an invite

Ask them to change up the set list, or tell them actually. There are definitely songs that should be replaced by Mr. Amsterdam and No Brains at least (My Direction and something else), or just add those songs. The setlist for the Duisburg thing seemed short...I hope the Warped set list isn't the same.

My question for Deryck is when he will be getting his own Twitter account like Cone and Steve? And also if he wants twitter.com/bizzyd just let me know and he can have it because I've got it at the moment :)

My other question is what's his secret to his song writing process? How does he write catchy hooks, melodies and lyrics?

What do you think?

I beg to disagree with the opening song. The Hell Song is a powerful song to open with, so it fits there perfectly. Compared to UH, which wasn't good for opening at all imo.

Well, if they ever play Mr. Amsterdam again, it would be just as good for opening. I just love The Hell Song and its place as the opening track.

But yeah, some older greats like Heart Attack or Rhythms would be a nice addition. But I don't think they ever will, especially with this new darker heavier style.

Deryck have said that they don't like to change setlists. "When we have something that works, we like to stick with it." They have played many more than 30 times straight the same setlist over and over. Setlist works for people that aren't that big of a fans but for fans hearing just singles suck.
Mr-David-Blues wrote:what about how much they have enjoyed making this record compared to previous ones? or something like that?
Sums had a video update about this. At least kinda. Deryck said that this album has been really fun to make, like AKNF and UH. DTLI and Chuck weren't that fun.
Max wrote:My question for Deryck is when he will be getting his own Twitter account like Cone and Steve? And also if he wants twitter.com/bizzyd just let me know and he can have it because I've got it at the moment :)
Deryck have said that he's not gonna have twitter. He said it was pointless 'cause when he's off tour he would just write something like "still writing" etc. And he don't like to share his private life. And he updates Sum 41 twitter already sometimes.
Max wrote: My other question is what's his secret to his song writing process? How does he write catchy hooks, melodies and lyrics?

In video update he said that he just randomly picks chord and start humming something. Everything that he hears have influences him. His lyrics are usually about life and everything he goes through influences him.

its a great opening song .. just over used now i think ... its time for a change ... play it later on ... even still waiting would be cool first song

UH was great song live when they extended the breakdown and got ppl on stage and did a little welcome talk... was a great way to start shows
