Yeh I know pretty much everyone will have seen this but I felt like I had to tell everyone that if you have a Blu ray player/PS3 and a fairly decent set up then you NEED this movie on Blu ray. I'm a total HD nerd.
I've seen a fair few Blu rays including some animated but none of them compare to the quality of Avatar it's actually incredible.
If anyone is looking for a Blu ray player I know Play.com has a good deal on at the moment/recently that was a Blu ray player for £120 and you get the £25 Avatar bluray package for free.

Why do we need a new thread for this? And with the exact same title?

Congrats but it's not exactly on the same subject. I'm talking about the Blu ray release and the quality of it, I don't care much for peoples opinions on the film.

I've never understood this fascination with HD. I've had a 1080p monitor since 2003, HD isn't new. I would much rather watch movies in 35mm film since that is the best format to view films on.Max wrote:Yeh I know pretty much everyone will have seen this but I felt like I had to tell everyone that if you have a Blu ray player/PS3 and a fairly decent set up then you NEED this movie on Blu ray. Re: Avatar
35mm is the best quality technically but it doesn't really matter. Although a single 35mm frame has many more pixels than a single HD frame the human eye can barely see single pixels (unless you're very close), what we actually view is lines and 1080p is pretty similar to 35mm. Basically you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it was 35mm or HD.Boni Boy Blue wrote:I've never understood this fascination with HD. I've had a 1080p monitor since 2003, HD isn't new. What I was saying about Avatar on Blu ray is that it's the best quality Blu ray I've ever seen. Other new films or conversions haven't come close to that kind of quality but you'll need a decent set up to get the best out of it. I've got a 10ft wide screen, 5.1 surround etc..

You missed the point of my rant though. It's not is better but the fact this sudden fascination when most computer geeks like myself and been HD since about 2004 (1998 for the rich ones). 1080p isn't new, infact it's very very old and outdated. I have one monitor attached to my gaming rig that has a resolution of 2560×1600 (1600p).
What am I saying is though is this 23'' monitor that I am using on my Ubuntu rig has the same amount of pixels as a 60'' TV.
Avatar does look good on Blu-Ray, I'm not saying otherwise, I love Blu-Ray, my only problem with it is that it uses old technology.
