:silly: cool, I like the piano in music, it's a nice instrument and it's different to write with, although I hope it's only we bits on new album and it also sounds better than did on UH, cos I thought piano was bit too much in background and sounded bit tinish, but was prob general sound on UH i think, so bit more real sounding piano upfront plz, but not too much, a song or 2 or 3 I'm happy with that, and yeah another song like Pieces would be great, either way I'll be happy really

Why all this piano hate?
I personally love Always and Count Your Last Blessings. The piano gives the song so much more depth.
So to me, leaving the piano only for the ballads would be lame.

i like piano in songs as well, but when it was in almost every song on UH it was kinda "enough already"-kind of feeling. and the piano in the chorus (?) of always was kinda pointless because it was just the one note over and over. the piano in this new album should be scattered. a little here, a little there and one or two which are mostly piano.

that sure sounds like the scientist by coldplay....even more than pieces did. or something avril would do.

i hope this doesn't have more than 2 slower songs, chuck had too many for the flow of a heavy album

The use of piano in Always and Count Your Last Blessings was very appropriate and those songs really benefitted from it. I just feel Deryck used it a lot (probably too much) in Underclass Hero. I think 10 out of 15 songs on the record used it at some point in the song. Walking Disaster to Pull the Curtain, every song in-between had a piano part.

I think using piano for every song will just take away from the individuality of the songs. King of Contradiction is a cool song because it uses horns after the first chorus. Imagine if every other song on the album used horns. That's why I also like Max Headroom, because the horns made it unique.

I don't know why Deryck doesn't let Tom record the piano parts... after all, Tom plays them live.

I knew he was with Gob but he could have taken time out to do the piano parts where he is now I guess. Nothing wrong with Deryck's piano playing though. Although I enjoyed the UH piano, this piano sounds better.

I like the piano too. In Underclass Hero the piano mostly followed the main chords the guitar was playing.

I'm really surprised. Deryck is using really great and not so overused chord progressions!
