It's a lot less because it's a Squier whereas the actual 72' Deluxe is a Fender. Not really a lot of difference apart from brand name and it cost them less to make. Apparently the signature model isn't very good though, Google it and get some reviews on it.

Don't listen to them, go for the actual Fender.

Yeah go for the Fender. Squire is a Fedner sub-brand, they basically make cheap Fender replicas and they don't sound as good as the originals. I heard some bad stuff about the Deryck Squier sig model.

Re: deryck whibley sig guitar?????
I think the main reason the his guitar sucks so much is that he wanted everybody to be able to purchase it and if he went with original Fender then it would cost far too much for the average user to own. I personally would go for the Fender '72 Deluxe myself because of the better sounding pick-ups and stronger quality build.
Plus it's pretty easy to make crosses on guitars, just use insulation tape and it should work fine

If you can afford the Fender '72 Telecaster Deluxe, get it. Better wood, better pickups, overall better quality. You get a wider range of tones out of the Deluxe as opposed to Deryck's guitar, which is basically only good for that pop-punk sound.mikey41 wrote:how come the deryck whibley signature guitar is only 300 dollars and the actual 72 telecaster deluxe is 800???

The thing you have to think about it that Deryck dosent even use the guitar, he uses a real fender with the red corsses. As a rule, the sig guitars/basses arent realy verry good because the main group of people who buy them (and i apologies if i sound insluting or condesending here cuz I really dont mean too) are young fans of whatever band/musician is relasing a custom guitar, who as a rule dont have alot of money. The best example I can think of this is the Pete Wentz bass that has just come out, most bass players who have been playing for a while and know the difference between a good instrument and a band one arent going to want to be seen with a Pete Wentz bass, so they have to make it marketabll to younger people, which means they have to be cheeper to retail which means there going to be made of cheep components.

i own the deryck tele, and the jack frequently falls out, its a 4/10 in my opinion, and its fucking heavy.
the 72 deluxe on the other hand rocks, i would totally get that anyday, and yes, there is actually a video of deryck playing his sig numerous times.

Yeah, my jack has been giving me trouble before as well. The guitar for me is just a piece of collection, but since I changed the pickup in it to a JB, it's a lot easier to enjoy playing it.

Yeah, signature guitars are just iffy for me. I don't see the point in getting one, unless you really, really like that guitarist's sound and can't emulate it with your own gear. Or you just like to collect. Though, lots of signature guitars are ridiculously expensive.Jake-41 wrote:I really don't want anybody elses guitar! So i prolly woulden't buy sig guitars.

But i would contradict myself for Billie's LP jr, Dave Navarro's PRS, James Hetfield's ESP, etc..
Like i said.. Just not a squier. Those are for people who just wanna be in the market... Deryck Whibley, Avril Lavigne, etc. Not a ton of work put into those guitars.
They do make awesome collectibles, though. Worth some change if held onto for awhile.

Yeah, I have the Billie Joe signature in vintage sunburst. It's my favorite of all the guitars I've got. Still trying to find that "perfect" tone with it though, like I have with my Telecasters.Jake-41 wrote:But i would contradict myself for Billy's LP jr, Dave Navarro's PRS, James Hetfield's ESP, etc..
Yeah, if I'm going to purchase a signature guitar, it should be quality, at least using the same pickups as the artist. Like, imagine if Epiphone didn't use the Dirty Fingers pickup for Tom's signature and it was only available on the Gibson. It'd be pointless to even have the Epiphone really.Jake-41 wrote:Like i said.. Just not a squier. Those are for people who just wanna be in the market... As for selling the Deryck Whibley signature down the road for some extra cash... He'll have to get a hell of a lot more famous and make some sort of legendary, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducting album before I'd be able to get a profit out of it.

Re: deryck whibley sig guitar?????
The 72 deluxe is one of the best playing guitars i've played (this was customized for my friend though with Seymour duncans and a new bridge)
The wood, the set up (though you should get a set up after buying a new guitar), the pick ups and everything else on the 72 deluxe is better than the squier. There are good squiers out there like the squier Vintage Jazz Bass (I'm a bass player) Basically in all if it's a steal ($100-150) get it. If not don't get it.
I Got my Hoppus Bass For 300. Now normally i wouldn't have gotten it, but for 300, you can't beat that price. It had the pick ups i wanted and the only thing i needed was a tone knob. I can live with out a tone knob though.
