English Matriculation Examination

Post by samueeL »

Jhelloy!

I need your help, fellow native English speakers. I have my English matriculation examination (Almost like A-Levels) test next weekend and one thing you have to do there among the other stuff is write an essay! So here's the thing that I'm asking:

If you could tell me some practical phrases and meaning of them! Teachers and inspectors really appreciate them and then I get good points and everyones happy. They also appreciate when you use words like "exquisite" instead of "fine". So also if you know some uber words that I could use in my essay instead of those normal ones it'd be nice x)

Max. points are 99 and I usually get +80 'cause I don't use phrases and stuff.
Thanks!

yeah so we're supposed to just throw in random phrases and 'Uber' words ? I mean if you have an essay on I don't know Japanese economy a fancy word for buttered toast won't really help you.

Finished mine with the words "confusion and frustration in modern times".

Yeah, thats why you should throw common phrases like "At the end of the day" and synonymes for words like good, bad, big, small... You have brains, think.

oh i had my A levels on june
i think i failed my english essay , t was about global warming and i was so feed up with that kind of essays that i ended up writing about something slightly different , (if you get off topic you fail ) funny thing is that i passed the essay for college and trust me it was hardest english test i've ever seen ( i had to do two more tests , one for each college i applied to )
so my advice is stay on topic

Here are some fancy adjectives

pertinacious - adhering resolutely to an opinion, purpose, or design b : perversely persistent. Basically means stubborn

cantankerous - difficult or irritating to deal with

pulchritudinous - characterized by or having great physical beauty and appeal.

I'm sure you already know this, but instead of words like got, say arrived, acquired, and so on.
