Motivation wasn't cool enough, so they had to throw in some of 88 to even it out.

Yeah, they've always played something to end Motivation:
part of Raining Blood in 2000-2001, the ending of Mr. Amsterdam in 2002-2004 and the ending of 88 since 2004.

So this isn't anything new.
