hey.. im a guitar player, and i'm thinking of getting a bass..
so, i was wondering, does anyone have any playing advice etc.. (e.g. is is much different to guitar? Can you use a pick all the time? and are there any songs where i can play just bass & you can use it with vocals(rather than Guitar & Vocals..) ,etc...)
also, what bass should i get?? im' looking for the best starter Bass guitar, with good quality sound, but for not too much money... just to have a bass as something else to play... around £150-£200?
thanks for any help you can give :)

Re: BASS GUITAR THING....
Bass is somewhat different to guitar playing however there are many techniques on bass you don't see on a guitar like slapping, for example.
The reason why some bassists use a pick is because it highly changes the sound of the bass. Still, you should always learn to play with your fingers. There are some songs that are really easy to sing to while you play because some songs include a bassline of constantly playing the same 4 notes over and over. A good example would be some Blink-182 songs.
If you're looking for a bass for around £150-£200, you're best bet is probably a Squire Precision Bass, a Jazz Bass or an Ibanez.
Hope that helped.

Re: BASS GUITAR THING....
Depends what sort of level you want to be as a Bassist. I just started playing and i'm already at a level i'm happy with, I don't slap or anything like that because I try to keep it punk, although I played guitar before picking up bass I can already play most things as most bass lines are simple anyway. Bass is very easy to learn in my opinion.
Apart from the different sounds between picks and fingers.. It's easier to make more cleaner noise with picks, it's a bit less messy and it's more punk (in my opinion).
I bought my bass for £150 its a Squier Precision and it's great.
Hope this helped.

Re: BASS GUITAR THING....
i also just started to learn bass seriously. i mostly play my friends' brothers' Peavy Bass, i do not yet have my own.
don't know if i should buy that one (slightly used) or if i should buy a brand new one. im thinking about an Embassy Bass. i don't know yet.
i mostly play with my fingers, just because its more comfortable. but with some really fast songs (Beast and the Harlot) i use a pick. there's nothing wrong with using either, but using your fingers opens you up to some cool pop/slap techniques.
